Founded in 1861,Caixa Econômica Federal is a Brazilian head-quartered bank and the biggest government-owned financial institution in Latin America. Caixa has more than 85 million accounts, with savings and investments over R$237 billion, and in excess of R$1.8 trillion under management.
Caixa had used CA Gen r6 for over 10 years without upgrading, and needed to move to CA Gen r8 to enable pending z/OS, DB2 and CICS upgrades. With over 55 major applications deployed, there was no way of knowing if the source code in CA Gen r6 corresponded with production systems.
CAIXA also had their CA Gen applications running in 3 separate encyclopedias on different mainframes in each of São Paulo, Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro.
Working closely with CA Technologies, Facet upgraded all Caixa’s CA Gen infrastructure and applications to r8. Critically, Facet was able to validate and resolve discrepancies between source and production. This ensured upgrades proceeded smoothly and there was no downtime for any of the applications.
All 55 applications at three mainframe sites were upgraded without disruption to ongoing business. Performance gains of 15% resulted in significant total cost of ownership reductions.
CA Gen is now integrated with CA Endevor to ensure robust configuration management during application delivery.
